Chiropractics: A Healthy and Active lifestyle Begins with a Healthy Spine
Your spinal column, made up of 24 independent vertebrae, is what allows your body to move, twist, and bend through every motion of your busy day. It also encases and helps protect the delicate nerve tissue that carries every communication between your brain and body. The nerves are so delicate to pressure that it only takes approximately 3 mm of mercury of direct pressure on the nerve to diminish its function by 50 %. This amount of pressure is like touching yourself on the cheek as light as you can. This is why we believe that one of the first steps to a healthy and active lifestyle is a healthy spine. The spine is dynamic and needs to move in order for it to function properly. Where there is life there is movement. When the spine or the vertebra become stuck or fixated, it causes a restriction or decrease in the amount of nerve impulse that is going through the nerve fiber. It is like taking a garden hose with the water going through it and bending it and kinking the hose. It will restrict the amount of water going through the hose. So it is with the nerve when it has pressure on it, it will cause the function to decrease.
What does a Chiropractic Adjustment do?
By adjusting the vertebra of the spine we create motion to the joint thus restoring function to the segment that is restricted. This will cause the return to normal function of not only the nerve, but also the blood supply and lymphatic drainage. Your spinal cord is protected by vertebrae. When your vertebrae aren’t working together properly, it can cause you to experience pain, discomfort, decreased mobility, or many other symptoms. These misalignments or fixations often go unnoticed even while causing major miscommunication between your brain and body. It can prevent the nervous system from functioning properly and could eventually lead to symptoms such as shoulder or elbow pain. These symptoms are your body’s only way of letting you know something is wrong. Unfortunately, by the time pain and symptoms appear the problem may have been present for months, even years. A vertebral fixation or subluxation can
cause various symptoms and effect different areas of the body and structure. It can affect the vertebrae that are jammed together and have loss of motion or they can also become hypermobile and cause a “noisy joint” or crepitation. This is the Kinesiopathic effect. The Neuropathophyiological effect form nerve impingement will cause pain, tingling, numbness, and or pins and needle feeling or a combination of sensations. The Myopathology from spinal fixation can also cause a weakness, tightness, spasms or soreness of the muscles related to the fixation.
Align the Vertebrae by Adjusting the Spine with Chiropractics
The Histopathology of the subluxation or fixation can also cause painful spots or swellings in the soft tissue called trigger points which cause tenderness in other soft tissue like ligaments, cartilage, tendons and discs. With all this change of the spine and soft tissue, over time pathophysiological changes in the body and structure can develop. The great news is that you can help prevent these types of symptoms with routine chiropractic care. Aligning or adjusting the vertebrae is extremely important and promotes ongoing wellness. Proper alignment or motion enables your body’s innate power to heal itself. Regular adjustments offer a host of health benefits beyond preventative care and is vital for keeping your body balanced, flexible and feeling its best.
